Flin Flon: the journey

Best way to start a great trip? 8 hours on the road, obviously!
Our day started early with a 7am departure in a red van and a blue van. One van? No, two vans. The drive was relatively uneventful for the first 6 hours, our excitement rising with the terrain and snow depth. We found the right (left) turn with help from Flin Flon coach Brett, and kept ourselves awake by blasting 'Leningrad' which Chris beautifully described as Russian wedding music.
Driving in to The Pas, 6 hours in, tired and needing washrooms, we came across a school. Only a little while earlier we had heard from Brett, informing us to pick up keys from his school. In our delirious excitement we got out and went to the front desk asking after him. The school was lovely, nice bathrooms, unfortunately no one at the school had heard of our friend the Flin Flon coach. Which is no surprise since we were in the wrong city! Laughing at ourselves we headed off again for Flin Flon, but first we had an even bigger problem, Erik was hungry! We assumed The Pas would have a Tim Hortons but as we crept closer the city limits we had yet to see one. Poor Erik was getting more and more anxious. Just as we were accepting defeat, almost turning into a grocery store Erik spotted the illusive Timmy's.  The busy Tim's served as the location for a brief team meeting and chocolate distribution as well as a teaching opportunity for Erik, who learned that one has to speak louder in order to receive their long awaited sandwich without further delay.
